When we first met Vasil, we knew it was the perfect fit. Vasil, a native Bulgarian is a Vinyasa flow yoga instructor here in Los Angeles. He provides a judgment free zone and offers support and encouragement through your practice. Here is a little more about Vasil…
Namaste! My name is Vasil. I am originally from Sofia, Bulgaria, but now reside and teach in beautiful Los Angeles, California.
After 15 years, dance training took its toll on me, and I found myself with a broken and dislocated kneecap. In the process of trying various ways to exercise and stay active without furthering the damage, I was talked into attending a yoga class. Like so many others, I’d spent years rolling my eyes and having misconceptions about what yoga is. It took just two friends and one class to shift my entire perspective on yoga and what it means to be a yogi. Still, I knew I had a lot of work to do to better my practice and my mind!
I understood from the beginning that there would always be people who could do yoga better than me; however, for the first time I looked at them not as competition, but as inspiration! Through continued practice, I also discovered that yoga is not just a work-out, but also a work-in, as your physical alignment begins to shift, so does your mental and emotional perspectives.
However, the big AHA! Moment came when I’d finished a 75-minute class at Amazing Yoga in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I realized that my breath and focus had conquered my mind. I could not recall a single posture we did, yet I felt like a new person — rejuvenated, relaxed, focused, and determined. (Yes, my muscles and sweaty body loved it, too!) So in 2013, after years of practicing various styles of yoga, I completed a 200-hour Yoga Alliance Certification in Los Angeles under the guidance of Jay Co , Savasana School of Yoga, and the supervision of Denise Waling and Jino De Castro.
The style of yoga I teach is Vinyasa Flow, and my intention for each class is to help my students connect their body, mind, and breath as we go through a sequence of movements
that bring focus and awareness into the present moment while quieting the mind. My mission as a yoga instructor is to mentally inspire and physically challenge my students, through a safe practice that reinforces proper alignment and the fundamental elements of yoga. While I believe that yoga is an individual journey, the groundwork for mental and emotional stability, it is strongest when built though a collective effort. Therefore, in each class we come together as a group, peacefully and joyfully, to create a protected space that suits all practice levels and individual needs and to inspire one another. Okay, okay… let’s not forget about the benefits to your body and physical appearance! Don’t worry, we all do have a six pack, some of us just hide it behind a few layers, just the way we sometimes hide our hearts! During our practice together, we will coax both to the surface as we work to attain a higher state of wellbeing and amazingly toned physiques.
